ABOUT DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia and accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases (Alzheimer's Association, 2020). Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks (NIA, 2017). In 2010, an estimated 35.6 million people worldwide were living with dementia, a number that is expected to double by the year 2030 (Stats Canada, 2016).
